Project Design and Safety Assurance Integration Lead
Key accountabilities
To ensure that the `assurance led` design philosophy is incorporated into every stage of a project`s lifecycle
To manage the strategic assurance direction for high hazard projects (nuclear and non-nuclear as applicable)
To ensure that a dedicated project is compliant with the project delivery process and company management arrangements
To appoint and manage the assurance team required to achieve project realisation and to ensure interrogation with other project functions.
To be responsible for the production of assurance strategies and documentation throughout a project`s lifecycle in support of project delivery
To act as technical interface with internal review, approval bodies and external regulatory bodies i.e. Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) and Environmental Agency (EA) on generic and project specific assurance issues
To ensure that the correct interfaces are maintained with existing projects and company stakeholders
To maintain adequate, Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) assurance resources to meet assurance strategies throughout a project life cycle
To produce and maintain the Assurance Control Plan and related strategy documentation
To manage the production of the staged safety case and environmental reports
To manage the integration of the assurance work with the development of the overall project
To manage the interfaces with existing facilities and projects
To manage the approval of the safety case through the checking, review and verification processes
To ensure that project teams are aware of and are working within the safety case requirements and environmental constraints
To ensure all deviations from the safety case and environmental documents are appropriately managed
To review testing and commissioning documentation
To liaise with, and where necessary resolve generic assurance issues with, other Project Assurance Managers (PAM`s) and related stakeholders
To identify, manage and resolve project security issues
To provide cost information to the Project Manager on assurance resource / requirements
To demonstrate assurance performance and value for money
Qualifications
Engineering or science degree or equivalent preferably with chartered status
Excellent understanding of assurance related legislation, standards and best practice
Excellent understanding of engineering project processes and links to assurance requirements
Excellent understanding of modern standards safety cases (hazard identification, fault analysis etc) and the application of ALARP / optioneering methodologies
A good understanding of environmentally related requirements applicable to project implementation (DREEM, EIA, Planning, BPEO etc)
Familiarity with working within an Assurance management system
Experience
Considerable experience of the supervision / management of a technical team in a nuclear / high hazard environment
Relevant, recent experience in a senior assurance post within a project is desirable
Practical experience of implementing assurance requirements and activities within a project or company environment in the nuclear industry
Experienced facilitator
Proven ability to negotiate key findings with senior managers
Strong experience in problem solving, influencing and negotiating with others at all levels of the business
Proven presentational skills to deliver findings in a succinct and authoritative manner
Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with good report writing
Good leadership and team management skills
Excellent understanding of a range of assurance technical issues
Ability to be both credible and persuasive
Must be motivated and energetic, willing to `go the extra mile`
Must be highly literate with good presentation skills
Good familiarity with the MS Office suite of software packages and IT systems
Demonstration of working effectively with a range of stakeholder in order to deliver project requirements
Personal commitment to excellence in assurance
Demonstration of sound assurance behaviours - leading by example
A willingness to challenging constructively in order to drive change and reach informed outcomes
Demonstration of a sound strategic overview of project requirements within the context of the management system
