Callanetics For Your Back
Callanetics exercises are designed to teach you a technique that will make it possible for you to never again have to put pressure on your back.
You will learn how to contract specific muscle areas while relaxing your back and your entire body. Most of the exercises actually stretch the spine at the same time they strengthen and stretch other muscles. Usually these are the muscles which can relieve the work load placed on the lower back.
When muscles are weak or are pushed beyond their capabilities, they tire easily and are unable to do the work demanded of them. Then the muscles of your lower back begin to take over, resulting in stress to that area.
The Callanetics exercise program is good for the back because, by stretching and strengthening the muscles in the upper leg, hip, buttocks, stomach and pelvis area, the body naturally stands in better alignment, taking pressure off the back. By having a balance through the muscular system, the back does not have to handle extra stress which is often caused by one group of strong muscles compensating for a weaker group. The exercises are also beneficial to the back because of their emphasis on stretching and relaxing. Often lower back pain is caused by stress alone.
Callanetics exercises do not place a strain on the cardiovascular system by inhibiting blood flow or altering the blood pressure to any extreme degree. The exercises do not exert pressure on the joints since there is no pounding or impact type movements.
