Volunteers wanted for Museum Garden

Date posted: Wednesday 14th May

Work-out in MERL’s garden!

The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL), on Redlands Road, is looking for green-fingered volunteers to help with planting flower and vegetable seeds, potting on and working on the new allotment beds.

You will be involved in general maintenance tasks in the garden, such as weeding, harvesting crops and taking up old plants.

Large tools (spades, forks etc) will be supplied but you will need to bring your own trowel and fork. MERL has recently acquired a greenhouse and shed which can be used by volunteers during these sessions.

During the next few months, MERL is also planning to develop its garden project into a ‘green gym’ in conjunction with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers but in the meantime we need more volunteers to help keep our garden up to scratch!

Staff will be on hand during the one to two hour sessions. Gardening experience would be useful but enthusiasm and commitment to help on a weekly or fortnightly basis are more important. Days of the week are flexible.

If you would be interested in helping out or would like to find out more about volunteering, please contact Nicolette Evans by email to UMACSvolunteers@reading.ac.uk
