Since its founding in 1998, DediPower has been dedicated to providing one product: state of the art, fast and reliable dedicated hosting solutions. We provide Linux and Windows servers, offered on a variety of Intel and AMD based hardware. Because of our unique flexible and personal approach, customers can be sure that we will provide a customised solution that fits their needs perfectly.

DediPower maintains complete control of the facilities we provide to our customers. We have our own Network Operations Centre, build our own servers, and operate our own resilient network. We are also full Nominet and RIPE (European IP Registry) members.

THE CANDIDATE
As part of our continued growth DediPower require self-motivated, professional, customer focused individuals to join our growing and exciting organisation. As a Systems Administrator you will work in a single tier customer support environment, working closely with your colleagues throughout the organisation to deliver support with passion. You will be responsible for diagnosing & resolving customer technical issues across multiple platforms throughout all DediPower's data centres.

THE ENVIRONMENT
DediPower is a customer facing server-only hosting environment where your first question is "what can I do to help?” … and a reboot is the last resort!

REQUIRED SKILLS
The successful candidate will be able to confidently demonstrate the following:-
o Strong customer focus and customer care skills: understanding that the primary objective of the System Administrator is customer service and the technology is in the application of that service.
o ‘End-to-end’ and life-cycle knowledge – understanding an entire hosting solution and how one part interfaces/affects other components throughout the life-cycle.
o Dynamic problem solving – capable of accurately diagnosing issues from hardware up through OS to application and network level.
o Understand the team dynamic and participate enthusiastically in team objectives and discussions.
o Self-motivated and disciplined. Capable of working autonomously and with minimal supervision.
o Open, honest and a strong sense of humour are paramount!

CORE SKILLS
You should be able to confidently demonstrate some or most of the 10 core competencies listed below (dependent upon level & experience of position applying for):-
o Setup Apache, including 3rd party modules.
o PHP custom configuration.
o Maintain and troubleshoot MySQL and/or MSSQL including importing/exporting data and databases.
o Significant experience with popular Mail server systems (installations, configuration and troubleshooting): for example Qmail, Sendmail, Postfix, and Exchange.
o Nameserver configuration and DNS understanding – knowledge of query types and where they are relevant.
o Configuration of IIS application pools, script extensions, ISAPI components, configuration backup and restore.
o System security configuration & troubleshooting – adding/amending firewall rules and testing network connections are working for specific services.
o Set up an FTP server from installation through to user upload.
o Compile software from source and satisfying dependencies.
o Server maintenance – diagnosing and replacing faulty hardware, configuring host and email AV.

DESIRABLE SKILLS
The following skills, whilst desirable are not pre-requisite.
o Control Panel experience – installing, configuring and troubleshooting a CP system.
o Compile and configure custom Apache solutions.
o Compile PHP from source to custom requirements.
o Performance tuning of MySQL/MSSQL
o ASP.net application troubleshooting.
o IIS load testing and debugging.
